With minor stores slated to close this Friday, the obvious is happening, everyone is hitting the main drag now. Shopping malls are full and there are queues in front of lots of parking lots and shops. Now I imagine that retail is welcoming the boom in retail, but I don’t think this is the best way to reduce carryover.
Some people’s behavior is really bizarre. Saw a huge queue to get into the ASDA parking lot even though the supermarkets won’t close. A customer who sells electronics was inundated with customers even though they offer free home delivery.
I’m not sure if they have a behavioral psychologist among the many thousands of officials in Stormont – if they don’t, it might be an idea to set up some kind of bump unit to see how the public will react to changes in rules. Or as the woman pointed out – just use your common sense.
Mind you, I’ve been thinking about getting an extra freezer for the anticipated food shortage during Brexit. Perhaps none of us are immune to the panic buying impulse.
