Bangladesh: Muslims attack Catholics, break windows, and destroy books and other religious items in the church

Again, imagine if the roles were reversed, what wouldn’t and shouldn’t happen. The media would never let you hear the end of it. But they will take no notice of it. Not even Pope Francis. It could harm his pointless, fruitless, and misguided “dialogue”.

“Bangladeshi Catholics Attacked, Church Destroyed” by Fabian Gomes, ChurchMilitant.com, November 23, 2020:

MOULVIBAZAR, Bangladesh (ChurchMilitant.com) – Armed Muslim militants attacked Catholics in Ichhachhara village in northeast Bangladesh earlier this month, wounded believers and desecrated their church – smashed windows and destroyed books and other religious items.

Sources tell Church Militant that the attack stems from an incident on September 21 in which Muslim Rafiq Ali illegally confiscated farmland from local Catholic Josper Amlorong using forged documents.

Amlorong reported the land grab to the authorities, and on November 9, police evicted Ali from the stolen package.

But that evening after law enforcement left Ichhachhara, Ali – an influential leader from the nearby village of Tatriuli – returned, supported by dozens of Muslim supporters, and launched his attack.

Now the Christians in the district live in fear and fear that their lives are in danger.

“Ali and his people forcibly entered and took possession of my property,” Amlorong told Church Militant. “You threatened my life. They told me to leave the country. It’s my only piece of land. “

Amlorong is a member of the mainly Christian Khasi tribe. Like most Khasis, his betel leaf garden is the only source of income for his family.

“If I lost my country, I couldn’t live,” said Amlorong, who has been fighting cancer for three years. “Without treatment, I’ll die.”

“Being a Christian, Ali thought I was weak, but I won’t leave my country until I take my last breath,” he vowed.

Amlorong noted that Ali and his cohort damaged many betel leaf plants during their occupation. “I lost BDT 500,000 (about $ 6,000) when my country was captured by Rafiq,” he said.

Christians are often the target of persecution in Bangladesh with a Muslim majority. Only 0.3% of the country’s 166 million people are followers of Christ.
