Ted Cruz urges the Supreme Court to overturn the Pennsylvania election results

After the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unanimously dismissed a GOP lawsuit aimed at disenfranchising millions of state voters, Texas Senator Ted Cruz is calling on the US Supreme Court to lodge an urgent appeal against the decision.

“An urgent appeal against the election results in Pennsylvania was filed with the US Supreme Court today,” Cruz said in a statement. “This appeal raises serious legal questions and I believe the court should hear the case swiftly.”

More of Sen. Cruz’s statement:

The Pennsylvania constitution requires a personal vote except in narrow and defined circumstances. Late last year, Pennsylvania law passed a law that allowed universal postal voting, despite the express prohibition of the Pennsylvania Constitution.

This appeal argues that Pennsylvania cannot change the rules in the middle of the game. If Pennsylvania wants to change the way people vote, the state must obey law to do so.

The illegality has been exacerbated by a partisan Pennsylvania Supreme Court that has made several decisions that reflect their political and ideological biases. Just over a month ago, Justice Alito, along with Justice Thomas and Justice Gorsuch, wrote – I believe correctly – of the Pennsylvania Court’s earlier decision to count ballots received after election day: “There is a high likelihood that the Supreme Court of the State decision violates the federal constitution. ‘

As Igor Bobic of the Huffington Post pointed out Tuesday, Ted Cruz is the first Senator to ask the Supreme Court to hear a case that effectively disenfranchises millions of voters.

Impressive. Ted Cruz makes a statement calling on the Supreme Court to hear the GOP appeal aimed at overturning the Pennsylvania election results – the first senator, I believe, to do so. (Toomey said it wasn’t a strong case) https://t.co/lZb4UpDkR5

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau beat up Cruz for supporting the idea of throwing PA ballots in the trash.

Just want to hear @tedcruz defend his conviction that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court is literally dismissing the results and disenfranchising every single voter who casts a ballot, a Democrat and a Republican.

Fox News doesn’t count. Must be a real outlet.

Pennsylvania was the most competitive battlefield in the 2020 election, and Joe Biden carried the state and its 20 electoral votes by just over a percentage point.

Republicans and Democrats in the PA Supreme Court dismissed the GOP lawsuit

In his statement, Ted Cruz described the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as a “partisan democrat,” but it was a bipartisan decision to reject the GOP lawsuit that sought to dump 2.5 million ballots.

As reported by The Guardian, the GOP plaintiffs in the case “tried to either throw away the 2.5 million postal ballots filed under the law – most of them by Democrats – or to wipe out the election results and run the Republican-controlled state legislature Pennsylvania presidential election to vote. “

Two Republicans joined five Democrats in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to dismiss the lawsuit, and now Ted Cruz is hoping the US Supreme Court will revive them.

In any other era of American politics, it would be amazing for a U.S. Senator to openly ask the Supreme Court to cast millions of votes, but this has become standard GOP behavior in the age of Donald Trump.
