Melania Trump attends Marine Corps Toys for Tots Drive
The FLOTUS is preparing to enjoy its final festive time at the White House after her husband Donald Trump lost in this year’s US election. In the run-up to December 25, Melania came under heavy criticism after posting a video of mingling with children in the White House without wearing a mask. The children and adults who visited the President’s Blue Room all wore masks as the US remains concerned about the coronavirus pandemic.
After sharing a video of the Christmas exhibition that the children saw, Twitter users raged in Melania asking them to “wear a mask and set an example”.
Around Christmas, Melania is often criticized for her selection of decorations and events she puts on by the public, including last year when a writer decided to speak out and defend her after another tantrum.
At the time, Tammy R. Vigil had just published a new book called Melania & Michelle: First Ladies in a New Era, which had been rated “bothersome” by writer Miranda Devine.
Ms. Devine described the book as “a mere bipartisan evaluation of the public images of both women”.

The book itself offered insight into the spells of Michelle and Melania as FLOTUS and described the “difficulties of the present with the fact that she was following a beloved and competent first lady”.
Ms. Devine argued that Melania’s “Christmas decorations have been denounced and her accent mocked” for years, but she maintained her cool amid mounting backlash.
Believing Melania didn’t make “the same mistakes of arrogant overreach” as other first ladies, she added, “Melania has the humility to understand that she is not the main game.
“Such an ego command is the first requirement for a first lady.”

The author exposed the unfair treatment Melania received after “finishing two terms” with Michelle “only in the middle of her first term with wildly hostile media.”
She claimed criticism of Melania was “more vicious, personal, and relentless than any first lady”.
Ms. Devine explained that maybe it was because her husband Donald had become so used to hatred that others directed it at Melania.
She concluded in a column for the New York Post last year: “Since the president has shown himself impervious to abuse, his enemies clearly want to attack him through his wife.

“Whatever you think of her husband, you can’t say that she acted anything but dignified in her role despite ugly provocations, including attacks on her young son Barron.”
After the book was published, Melania unveiled her Christmas decorations for the 2019 celebrations celebrating “The Spirit of America”.
She posted a picture of a Christmas wreath, claiming it was “Melania” wreaths torn apart on social media.
Some mocked Melania when the post made it appear that the FLOTUS himself invented the Christmas wreath. One disgruntled user commented, “A green wreath with a red bow on windows, doors and fire pits has been a common tradition in the US for decades and decades now. “
Another added, “Are you saying she made them herself? Or designed wreaths with red bows? Or what?”

The comparisons between Michelle and Melania continued throughout her four-year stint at the White House.
Michelle was openly critical of Melania after she met the new United States First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, after her husband Joe Biden won the election in November.
Michelle’s comments came after CNN reported that Melania was secretly admitted to FLOTUS by former friend and advisor Stephanie Winston Wolkoff to condemn a policy introduced by the Obamas in 2018.
Under the Obamas, “children were only separated from parents if the authorities had concerns about their wellbeing,” while that policy did not continue under Mr. Trump.

On the tapes, Melania said, “OK, and then I’ll do it and I’ll say I’m working on Christmas and planning Christmas and they were like, ‘Oh, what about the kids they separated [from]? ‘
“Give me a break. When you said something, when Obama did that? I can’t go, I tried to reunite the child with the mother. I had no chance – have to go through the process and through the law.”
Stephanie Grisham, Melania’s chief of staff, accused Ms. Wolkoff of “deliberately breaking a nondisclosure agreement (NDA)” and using it as a “clear attempt” to be relevant.
She added, “The timing for this remains suspect – as is this never-ending exercise in self-pity and narcissism.”
