House Passes $ 2K COVID Relief Payment, Overrides Trump’s NDAA Veto

House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi has tabled a bill for major stimulus relief checks that increased the one-time payment from $ 600 to $ 2,000. The final vote took place between 275 and 134. Forty-four Republicans joined all but 2 Blue Dog Dems to get the bill passed.

Mitch McConnell now has a problem because he can either bring the bill to the Senate or he can’t. In both cases, Georgia Senate candidates Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue opposed these payments, while Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock expressed their support.

Mixed in are Donald Trump’s irritable tantrums. I could see him getting McConnell to produce the bill, hand it over with Dems, and then not sign it. Trump is in a prolonged hissing fit over his loss, and he doesn’t really care what damage he does on his way out.

TO UPDATE: The House has just overruled Trump’s veto by 322-87 votes. This bill will now also be forwarded to the Senate so that a vote can be overridden.
