Labor Party representatives will not attend the inauguration in Biden
After much self-glorifying hype, sparked on this side of the pond rather than in DC, that a shadow cabinet minister would attend Biden’s inauguration ceremony, Starmer has finally ended the story. The Labor Party leader told Sky News this morning:
“We hope for a good working relationship … We would have loved to have been there at the inauguration, that will not be possible with travel restrictions, but we are already building a close working relationship between my team and the elected President Biden on Team.”
The line from Starmer’s spokesman during yesterday’s post-PMQ scrum was more evasive: “No plans to do this at this point, not least because of the ongoing pandemic and travel restrictions.” It all got a bit needy, remember Gordon Brown’s Obama past?
