On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris dodged a question about the unaccompanied minor crisis on the US southern border, telling reporters that she was “not informed about it today.”
The increase in unaccompanied minors arrested at the border and placed in US facilities has been going on for weeks.
Harris made her comments while promoting the $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus spending package during a trip to Colorado.
CBS reports that over 4,200 unaccompanied minors are currently being held by the government.
As she was preparing to get on her plane here in Denver, I asked @VP if she was concerned about the influx of migrant children at the border. “I wasn’t informed about it today,” Harris said as she walked from us to the stairs, “but I’ll do it when I get on the plane.” pic.twitter.com/kCAdKCpgUl

This exchange with the press took place while Harris spoke briefly to reporters at the airport.
While Harris largely avoided the issue in front of the press on Tuesday, Presidential candidate Harris strongly condemned the policy of keeping children in border detention centers during the 2020 Democratic primary.
Harris even accused former President Donald Trump of “violating human rights” by “caging babies”.
On a NAACP forum, Harris said:
“You see the fact that this is a president who has pushed a policy that involves caging babies in cages at the border in the name of safety when it is in fact a human rights abuse carried out by the government committed by the United States. ”
ABC News verified Harris’ claim, citing comments from Harris and Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg:
“By Buttigieg’s standards, the Democratic Party has also lost its right to appeal to religion – because the“ cages ”were built and used by the Obama administration. Harris, a California Senator, calls it a human rights abuse, but like other Democrats only accuses Trump …
A year ago, photos of the Associated Press showing young people in such enclosures were misrepresented online to depict Trump’s imprisonment of children and denounced by some Democrats and activists to illustrate Trump’s cruelty. In fact, the photos were taken during the Obama administration in 2014.
Many Democrats continue to use images of “caged babies” – as Harris put it – without acknowledging that Obama used the facilities as well. “
Now that Harris has reportedly been briefed since her flight, her comments on the matter should be made public.

Trump and Biden treated this issue very differently
In late February, Fox News published a story detailing the Washington Post’s hypocrisy about how it covered Trump’s border policies towards minors compared to the Biden administration, which continued with similar policies.
Fox News’ headline in February read: “WaPo called for a report on Biden’s” Migrant Children’s Facility “after meeting Trump’s” Children in Cages “.
“Dozens of immigrant teenagers boarded delivery trucks on Monday to drive down a dusty road to a former men’s oilfield worker camp. This was the first immigrant child facility opened under Biden’s administration,” the Post reported.
“The emergency facility – a holdover from the Trump administration that was only open for a month in the summer of 2019 – will be reactivated to accommodate up to 700 children ages 13-17.”
WaPo continued, “Government officials say the warehouse is needed because facilities for migrant children had to cut capacity by almost half due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the number of unaccompanied children crossing the border has increased. January was the highest total – more than 5,700 fears – reported for that month in recent years. “
Fox News noted, “The headline, ‘First Migrant Children’s Facility To Open Under Biden’ ‘appeared to be far more charitable than the coverage the Post gave to former President Trump, particularly during the 2018 migrant crisis when the government forced their separation from children into policy among migrant families. “
